Oh Lord! What Big Eyes You Have

January 19, 2015

Happy New Year!  It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted a new blog as I took a break over the holidays and spent some precious time with family and friends in Indiana.  I trust your new year is off to a great start.  If not, today’s a good day to re-start!

In December, I was faced with a huge decision.  Something that would impact my life in a big way.  A change.  Something new, different and challenging.  Something I’ve always prayed for.  When the opportunity was given to me I was thrilled because I thought that my prayers had finally been answered.  It’s hard to be patient, but God’s timing is perfect.

It was quite the process that extended into about four weeks of . . . waiting for an answer.  This opportunity was perfect in my eyes.  I listed the pros and cons and thought it all out carefully.  The only con was that it would require change and coming out of my comfort zone.  That’s not exactly a con though, it’s what pushes us to grow - so in a way, I welcomed it.  We need to get out of our comfort zones.  If we don’t, nothing will change.  As they say, if you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat.  I was ready to get out of the boat.

So as I waited and waited on a final decision I kept praying to God that this was the right thing to do.  Why was it taking so long for an answer?  Was this from Him?  Or was it a door that He should close?  As perfect as this opportunity seemed I still prayed that God would shut that door if it wasn’t from Him.  But days kept coming and going with no solid answer.  I had hope, I’m an optimist for crying out loud!

Finally, the answer arrived.  I was so, so close to this door being held open for me.  I mean, so, so, so close!   It wasn’t the answer I wanted, but the answer I had reluctantly anticipated deep down.  I knew that God would close that door if it wasn’t for me no matter how perfect I thought this opportunity was.  And that, He did!  I admit that I was very disappointed for a while, but I soon had to regroup and rethink the whole thing and lay it out before God again.  He gave me an answer.  “Not now, not this.”  You see, in my eyes it was perfect!  But God has bigger eyes!  Much bigger eyes.  He can see the whole picture when I can’t.  He sees my future when I can’t.  And what He sees, I trust.  He has a purpose for me.  He has a plan.  He has something better for me.  I have faith and I’m so thankful for His guidance!   If God closes a door, know that He has something better in store and rejoice in that!

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.  By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.  Hebrews 11:1-3

Have a blessed day!
